Visa Short Stay
A visa for a short stay is a Schengen visa that entitles the holder to a stay for a maximum of 3 months in the Schengen countries. These are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Spain, Sweden. With a Schengen visa, you can travel through the Schengen countries for as long as your visa is valid.

IMPORTANT

  • Applications must be made at least seven days before intended date of travel.
  • The issue of a visa will at least take 48 hours (two working days).
  • Visa applications may at the discretion of the Consular Affairs Section be forwarded to the proper Netherlands authorities for verification. This process will take a minimum period of 21 days. The applicant will receive a confirmation of the application of a visa as well as a visa file number for easy reference.
  • Only duly completed applications (those that are presented with all required documents) will be processed. The application will have to be presented to the Consular Affairs Section by the passport holder/traveller in person.
  • Visa charges will have to be paid at the time of application. Charges are to be paid in Tanzanian Shillings; foreign currency, cheques, credit cards, etc. are not accepted. The visa charge will not be refunded in case of refusal of a visa.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE APPLICATION OF A VISA:

  1. Adobe Acrobat PDF Application form, completed in full.
  2. Two color / black & white passport-size photographs:
    3 x 4 cm in size, front view, white background, face-size at least 2 x 2 cm, person not wearing sun-glasses or any headcovering.
  3. Valid passport
    passport should be valid for at least six more months after expiry date of visa; passport should have sufficient empty pages (2 pages per country visiting).
  4. a. If an application is made for a transit-visa: an onward visa for the final destination is required.
    The reason for transit through the Schengen-country has to be proven and documented.
    b. If an application is made for a visitors visa: onward visa or proof of re-admittance in Tanzania (valid residence permit, re-entry permit and the like) is required.
  5. Proof of return air-tickets / confirmed booking.
    Airline computer print-outs  of confirmed return flight reservation.
  6. A letter of introduction and/or sponsorship from the employer of the applicant.
  7. Proof of sufficient funds (legally obtained).
  8. Additional requirements in case of
    - Study : Proof of sponsorship and proof of payment
    - Visit to friends or family: a letter of invitation and guarantee issued and duly stamped by the town-council of the city in the Schengen-country where your host is residing.
    - Business: valid (Tanzanian) business licence; invitation letter of foreign companies;
    proof of transactions/funds.
    - Seamen: relevant ship's employment details and seaman's book.
    - Tourism: confirmed tour/hotel reservations and proof of funds.
  9. With effect from the 1st January 2007 charges for Schengen-visa according to the applicable exchange rate are € 60,--

NOTES

  • Diplomatic and service passport holders must bring a note from the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation. This is also required for private travel.
  • The presented foreign (Tanzanian) passport will be forwarded to the Immigration Department of Tanzania for verification in case the authenticity of it is doubted. In such cases you might have to collect the passport from the Headquarters of the Immigration Department in Dar es Salaam.
  • The visa application form, passport photographs and all documents given to support your application will not be returned.

Hotels and lodgings are considered to keep records of their guests in their hotel-registration.

The sponsor (referent) is responsible for his/her guests.
