Economic and trade section

Welcome to the Economic and Trade Section of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This website primarily intends to help Dutch companies on their way to doing business with and in Tanzania. Here, you will find information on the business climate in Tanzania, as well as a variety of links to other websites dealing with trade and investment. Tanzanian companies interested in doing business with The Netherlands are, of course, equally welcome to browse through this website. They, too, will no doubt find the lists of contact details of the various specialised agencies very useful. However, they should also contact the Tanzanian Embassy in Brussels or the Consulate in The Netherlands. (Website: Externe link www.tanzania.nl; E-mail: Emailadres info@tanzania.nl)

The Netherlands Government makes available a number of instruments that are designed to assist private enterprise when doing business with developing countries. These can also be helpful when entering the Tanzanian market. The most important programmes, instruments and agencies are listed on this website, together with some examples of how they work in practice. Tanzanian companies may find a sum of the contact details in the Netherlands useful too. They should however also call upon the embassy in Brussels.

By providing you with this information the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Dar es Salaam aims to point you in the right direction when considering doing business in Tanzania. The given information on this website may not, however, cover everybody’s needs and suggestions are most welcome!

Activities Economic and Trade section

The main tasks of the Economic and Trade Section are to continuously assess both the macro- and micro- economic climate in Tanzania, to monitor the Tanzanian Government budgetary policies and its public finance management, and to promote trade and investment between our both countries. Much of what the Economic and Trade Section does on a daily basis is presented on this website, i.e. interfacing between your company’s need for information and the various specialised agencies, both Dutch and Tanzanian, established to promote bilateral economic relations.

What can the Economic and Trade section do for you?

The Economic and Trade Section can support you when (thinking about) investing in Tanzania. However, the Section wants to underline that it is very important to be well prepared. Doing business in Tanzania is not without some serious challenges. It is a country in transition, and its business climate is a reflection of that. Success, therefore, largely depends on solid preparations. Therefore the Economic and Trade Section strongly advises you to first of all contact the agencies in the Netherlands that are concerned with Trade and Investment. These agencies can help you prepare before and provide support during your business venture. They are listed on the next chapter of this website.

The Economic and Trade Section can provide you with background information on domestic regulations, economic sectors, current tenders and privatisation, network facilitation and, when appropriate, mediation.
